The Western North Carolina Journalism Foundation exists to protect, strengthen and sustain independent local journalism for Burke County and the surrounding region. Our first priority is supporting The Paper, Burke County’s all-local weekly newspaper, as it grows the reporting, accountability journalism and civic information residents need to participate fully in community life.

With editions spanning from February 2023, its catalog reflects a publication deeply rooted in the issues, stories, and voices of Morganton and the broader Burke County area.
