Mull Foundation Grant to Support Collaboration for Local News
Inaugural Grant to the Western North Carolina Journalism Fund from the J. Alex and Vivian G. Mull Foundation Charitable Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Burke County
WNCJF is proud to announce receipt of our first institutional grant from the J. Alex and Vivian G. Mull Foundation Charitable Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Burke County. The Mull Foundation’s focus is on fostering a spirit of entrepreneurial community collaboration. The grant awarded to WNCJF will support such efforts in Burke County, primarily for the work of the locally-owned, all-local print and digital news outlet, The Paper. From Executive Director Barbara Wetsig-Lynam, “I couldn’t be more pleased to receive this grant. The Mull Foundation is an exemplary community partner who understands the importance of local news and the multi-stakeholder effort required to launch and sustain a local paper.” Throughout the year, The Paper will host a series of community meetings with the goal of improving its reach and impact in meeting Burke County’s civic information needs.
